FABRE-ULOUS FIRST GAME
Scott Fabre’s two-run homer in the top of the sixth accounted for the game’s only runs and Delgado’s 2-0 victory over Gordon College (Kansas). Delgado was led defensively by a shutout pitching performance by Jake Fabre, who picked up his second win of the season, allowing only four hits and striking out twelve.
DOLPHINS SINK PIRATES WITH SEVENTH INNING COMEBACK
Sean McMullen led things off with a solo home run in the first inning of a game that would be tied three times prior to it’s conclusion. The Dolphins prevailed over Pensacola State in the seventh, mounting a four-run comeback with two outs in the top of the last. Chad Gough-Fortenberry’s RBI single tied the score and a Pensacola balk scored the tying run by Nate Fury. Alex Prestenbach’s two-run single scored two additional insurance runs to secure the 7-4 Dolphin victory. Brennan Coe picked up his first win on the mound, with Nate Fury getting his second save of the season in relief.
With the wins, Delgado improves to a 10-1 start to their 2011 campaign. The weekend series will conclude on Sunday with a single game against Pensacola State at noon.
