Delgado defeated Meridian Community College in a Miss-Lou conference double header on Saturday afternoon at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
In the first game, Chad Gough-Fortenberry kicked off the scoring in the fourth inning with an RBI single to score Scott Fabre, who had reached on a single. James Davis followed with a two-RBI single for the Dolphins to take a 4-0 lead. Davis would also score the fifth run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the sixth to close the scoring in Delgado’s 5-0 shutout of the Eagles. Brent Bonvillain picked up his fifth win of the season on the mound, going the distance and striking out eight Eagle batters.
In the second game, Meridian took an early 11-2 lead into the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth, the Dolphin bats exploded for six hits in an eight-run inning. Delgado would follow up in the fifth inning with an addition six runs to take the 16-11 lead. Delgado would score a single run in the sixth to close out the scoring and the 17-11 victory. Scott Fabre led the Dolphins offensively, going 5-5 with five singles and driving in three RBIs. Chad Gough-Fortenberry went 3-5 with RBI. Alex Prestenbach pounded a solo homer in the bottom of the first to tie the game at two. Ben Mundell picked up the win in relief in one of the biggest comebacks in recent Delgado history.
Delgado (30-6, 3-2) will round out the weekend series on Sunday with a single, 9-inning game at 2:00 p.m. at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
