It seemed like just another Sunday as the Dolphins hosted LSU-Eunice in a non-conference doubleheader at historic Kirsch-Rooney.
With near perfect weather and a near-capacity crowd on-hand, the Dolphins handed the Bengals a 13-0 shutout victory that was cut short due the ten rule. Delgado’s offensive explosion pounded out three runs in the first, nine in the third, and one in the fourth en route to the 13-0 victory over the LSU-Eunice.
Delgado was led by Daniel Brockhoeft (2-3, 2 RBI), Chad Gough-Fortenberry (2-3, 2 RBI), Angelo Bruno (1-3, 3 RBI), and Sean McMullen (2-3, 2 RBI, 1 HR). Alex Prestenbach and James Davis each went 2-3 with 1 RBI. Brent Bonvillain pitched a complete game shutout, improving to 5-0 on the mound.
The victory also marked Head Coach Joe Scheuermann’s 700th victory as the Delgado skipper. Scheuermann, now in his 21st season at the helm of the Delgado Baseball program, succeeded his father “Rags” in 1990 and has now amassed an overall record of 700-363. His teams have finished with more than thirty wins for 15 of those seasons, with the Dolphins never having a losing season during his tenure. Scheuermann was named the Miss-Lou Conference Coach of the Year last season, when he led the Dolphins to the 2010 Region XXIII/Miss-Lou Conference Title and a trip to the South Central District Championship, only several outs away from a return trip to the Junior College World Series.
