Delgado defeated Meridian Community College 3-1 on Friday afternoon in the Opening game of the 2011 Region XXIII Tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
Brent Bonvillain pitched a complete game on the mound for the Dolphins, allowing only four hits while striking out six. The Dolphins scored two runs in the second inning on back to back singles by Daniel Brockhoeft and Angelo Bruno. Bruno’s run would score on a wild pitch by Meridian starter Michael Manley. In the third, Scott Fabre reached on a lead-off single and scored with Daniel Brockhoeft’s double for the Dolphins’ third run.
Meridian’s solo run was scored in the second when Dustin James’ double scored Darren Farmer, who had reached base with a walk.
Delgado (38-14) will return to face Baton Rouge in the feature game tonight at 8:00.
