Delgado defeated Baton Rouge Community College 3-2 on Friday night to advance to the Championship Round of the 2011 Region XXIII Tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
Jake Fabre (8-1) pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits and striking out five. Daniel Brockhoeft went 3-4 to lead the Dolphins offensively, including two singles and a home run. Each of Delgado’s three runs came in solo fashion, scoring in the second, fourth, and fifth innings. Scott Fabre’s RBI double scored Sean McMullen for the third and deciding run. Baton Rouge picked up two runs in the bottom of the fifth, representing the Bear’s only mark on the scoreboard.
Delgado and Baton Rouge will meet at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As the sole undefeated team in the tournament, Delgado would only need one win to secure the Region XXIII title. The if-necessary game will be played on Sunday.
In earlier action, Delgado defeated Meridian 3-1 and Baton Rouge defeated Meridian 8-7 to eliminate the Eagles in dramatic fashion.
