DELGADO SPLITS OPENING ROUND OF PLAY IN SOUTH CENTRAL DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

Jake Fabre pitched a complete game for the Dolphins en route to their extra-inning, 3-0 win over Eastern Oklahoma in the first game of the 2011 South Central District Tournament on Friday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. The game remained 0-0 for nine complete innings before Scott Fabre and Sean McMullen’s back-to-back doubles posted the first three runs of the game and secured Delgado’s 3-0 victory.

In the second game, Jefferson College defeated Delgado 4-1 to allow the Delgado split. The Dolphins’ solo run crossed the plate when Angelo Bruno doubled in the eighth, scoring Alex Prestenbach, who had reached on a single. Brent Bonvillain got the loss on the mound.

In the tournament nightcap, Eastern Oklahoma State defeated Jefferson College 1-0 with an walkoff, RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth. With all three tournament teams tied with a win and a loss each, a coin flip determined the bracket outcome. Delgado will play Eastern Oklahoma at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday with the winner advancing to play Jefferson at 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon for the championship.
