Delgado defeated Eastern Oklahoma State College 5-4 on Saturday to advance to face Jefferson College in the South Central District Championship game on Sunday.
James Davis’ and Nate Fury’s back to back RBI-singles in the second posted the first two runs of the game, scoring Daniel Brockhoeft and Angelo Bruno. Chad Gough-Fortenberry’s two-RBI double in the fourth scored Kevin Williams and Scott Fabre to close out the Delgado scoring. Eastern Oklahoma threatened, posting three runs in the fourth inning following a hit batter and two walks. The Mountaineers also scored a solo run in the sixth following two Delgado errors. Ben Mundell picked up the win in relief of starter Stone Speer, striking out five and allowing only three hits.
With the win, Delgado advances to face Jefferson College (Missouri) in the championship game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. The winner will advance to the NJCAA Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.
