Delgado Basketball hosted Mississippi Gulf Coast Tuesday evening in the Michael Williamson Center. In the Ladies’ game, Delgado trailed by three points at the half but could not overcome the Bulldogs, who scored 31 points in the second half of the game to defeat Delgado 59-53. The Dolphins (0-2) were led by Andraline Marshell and Deangenee’ Thomas who each scored 17 points. The Delgado men, down 26-19 at the half, could not overcome Gulf Coast, falling 65-48 to fall to 1-1 on the season. Jauries Thomas and Rashaun Claiborne led the Delgado scoring with 14 and 13 points respectively. Delgado travels to Mobile, Alabama on Thursday to face Bishop State.

The 2011-2012 Delgado Basketball season opens tonight, November 3, in the Michael Williamson Center. The Dolphins will host Jones County (Women @ 5:00, Men @ 7:00) as they kick off a new season.

The program, hosted by Tommy Krysan, will take a look at the 2010-2011 Delgado Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams including information on the players, program history, Delgado Community College and more! The show will predate several game broadcasts of the Dolphins’ 2011 Miss-Lou Conference schedule next month.

Delgado split its road series against Copiah-Lincoln College on Tuesday night in Wesson, Mississippi… In the Ladies’ game, the Dolphins trailed by two at the half but could not pull out a victory en route to their 87-59 loss to the Wolfpack. Shaquinta James led the scoring with 20 points, followed by Erne Snowden (13) and Claudia Tasker (11). 

The Men’s team took a 33-29 lead heading into the half, which led to their eventual 82-75 win over Co-Lin. Renard Smith had 23 points, followed by Josh Major who finished the game with 17.

The Men’s team will travel to Niceville, Florida on Thursday to face Northwest Florida College before their holiday break.

The Dolphins opened their 2010-2011 home schedule with a bang on Thursday night, defeating Jones County in both the Women’s and Men’s games.

In the earlier game, Raven Holmes led the scoring with 14 points, with Shaquinta James scoring 13. Brittany Walker and Kayla Jackson each scored 9 enroute to the Dolphins’ 68-67 win over the Bobcats.

In the night game, the Dolphin Men took an early lead and never lost control, defeating Jones 94-83. Delgado was led by Rashaun Claiborne, who scored an impressive 27 points, with Brandon Diggs and Renard Smith close behind with 25 points and 22 points respectively.

With the victories, both teams improve to 1-1 on the season. The Dolphins’ first losses came this past Monday on the road at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Delgado will return to the Williamson Center next Tuesday to host the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs, with the Women’s game at 5:00 and the Men following at 7:00.
